Family goodbyes, and messages from God

Thank you to everyone who sent condolences for the passing of Tim's grandfather "Papaw". We have such great friends that always rally around us in times of sadness.

We made it through the Superbowl weekend with little incidents -- Tim was on a standy-by team but with the rain he saw little action. Once home on Sunday night we crashed and got up early the next morning to pack and head up for Papaw's memorial service. For anyone who doesn't believe in the power of prayer, listen up ... we stopped at a service plaza for a brief potty break and then back in the car to make the rest of the 2.5 hour trip, but the car wouldnt start. Freaked out, Tim popped the hood and tinkered around like he knew what to do and I prayed... surely God knew what an important day this was --- I finished my prayer and tried the engine again and sure enough it started up and we finished the drive...

The service was beautiful and Tim said the most amazing words -- he was the only one of the grandchildren to speak, and I don't think he even remembers what he said but here is a the cliffs notes version: Papaw was a hero in the truest sense of the word. He answered the call of his country and was wounded in battle, he returned to serve in law enforcement and handled dangerous situations, even though those stories would scare his wife of 57 years. And was the patriarch of the family, always living under God's guidance and he loved each of us with such excitement. Papaw never met a stranger, was loved by everyone and had the best smile and laugh in the world He will be missed.

After the service, the family did a graveside ceremony where taps was played, the flag was folded and presented to the family, and we circled and prayed over the casket before it was lowered. A fitting goodbye for someone so key to the family.

We had a nice family dinner that evening and Tuesday we got time with the family again at -- where else? -- Doubles Hoagies on the beach... the nephews were such a joy to be with as well... I think they like us :)

Cooper didnt get to swim because it was too cold -- and he had to have his feet protected since the in-laws just installed hardwood floors... he didnt seem to complain, and it was actually pretty funny to see him walking with his booties on.

Sad Scott family news

Tim's grandfather passed away this morning. He had been ailing recently and suffered from several long-term health conditions. Still, he was a sharp-minded gentleman who always had a joke at the ready (even if he sometimes forgot the punchline) and he was so excited at Christmas with the flashlight and polo shirt we bought him.

Such an amazing soul
